Honorable Living Before Unbelievers

            1 Peter 2:12 (NASB95)
12 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers,
they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Obey for Christ’s Sake when it is God’s will.
 Submission to the government (2:11–17)
             Submission to masters (2:18–25)
 Submission in the family (3:1–7)

            1 Peter 2:15–18 (NASB95)
                                                                                               6
15 For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. Act as free men,
                                                                                      17
and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God. Honor all people, love the

brotherhood, fear God, honor the king. Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to
those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are unreasonable.

            1 Peter 3:7–9 (NASB95)
7 You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since
she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be
                    8
                                                                                                          9
hindered. To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; not
returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose
that you might inherit a blessing.

Let Christ be Lord in your heart and your conduct.

            1 Peter 3:15–17 (NASB95)
15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to
give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; and keep a good conscience so
                                                                                  16
that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.
17 For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is
            wrong.

            The Responsibilities of Christian Living

            1 Peter 4:2 (NASB95)
2 so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.

            2 Peter 1:5–9 (NASB95)
5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral

                                                                                                        8
perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. For if
these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge
of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his

            purification from his former sins.
