Study Section 6: Creating a Keynote Presentation
6.1 Connect
As with any skill, it takes practice to learn how to master making presentations. The best
way to learn is to just dive in and keep working at it. You will find that each presentation will
get easier and easier as you learn the program. They say, “practice makes perfect” and that
is so true when it comes to learning computer skills. The nice thing about using PowerPoint
is that once you master it, the program called Keynote (an Apple product) is much easier to
learn because they are similar. Today, we are going to give Keynote a whirl. Then we will
learn way that you can move your presentations to the next level, making them more appealing to your
audience. Let’s get started…..
6.2 Objectives
1. The student should be able to create a Keynote presentation at the conclusion of this
section.
2. The student should be able to state the ten tips to making better presentations.
6.3 Keynote for Mac: Create your first presentation
Let’s use the exact same lesson and perhaps the same graphics to create a slide presentation in
Keynote.
To create a Keynote presentation, you first choose a theme, which is a set of predesigned slide
layouts that you use as a starting point. Each layout includes placeholder images and text styled
as headlines and body content. To add your own content, you replace the placeholder content with your
own.
Create a presentation
1. To open Keynote, click the Keynote icon in
the Dock, Launchpad, or the Applications
folder.
If the theme chooser (shown below) doesn’t
appear, hold down the Option key and
choose File > New (from the File menu at
the top of your screen) to open it.
Note: If you want table and chart data in this
presentation formatted according to the
conventions of a different language, choose
a different language in the Language pop-up
menu in the bottom-left corner of the
theme chooser. For more information,
