Study Section 4: Growing in Christ through the Word
                                                                 Personal Bible Study

Now days, everyone has an opinion about just about anything! Some people say it’s OK to
abort a baby; after all, it is just a mass of tissue. A person with an opposite view might say,
“Abortion does not make you un-pregnant; it makes you the parent of a dead child.” Some
people say a man and woman should just live together and try out their relationship to see if
it will work out. They sat it’s like test driving a car before you purchase it. Others people call
that “fornication” and say it is wrong. Some people like one political party; others stand
against that party and join another one. Everyone has a view on just about every subject under the sun.

So who is right? Is something right for you and wrong for me? Is everything understood in shades of
gray? Isn’t there some kind of moral standard which trumps what people personally believe?

Today we will see that the Bible is God’s final Word on moral standards and is our guide in our faith and
practice of life. It is our foundation upon which we can build our lives and our minds. So we need to
read and study it to find out the right path. Let’s get started….

                4.2 Objectives:

                        1. The student should be able to discuss some alternate philosophies of life that oppose God’s
Word and see how they have crept into the views of some believers.

                        2. The student should be able to explain that God’s Word is our moral compass to direct our
lives according to God’s perfect plan.

4.3 Growing in Christ through the Word – Personal Bible Study

                            Why Study the Bible?
It is God’s Book to us….God took the time to write it…we need to take the time to read it.

It has the answers to all the major questions of life.
                                1. Where did I come from?
                                2. Why am I here?
                   3. Where am I going?
                   4. How do I know the truth?

You are on a Journey toward Eternity.

Along the way, you are going to be hit with some ideas that will lead in the wrong direction. You should
be warned of the wrong ways! But how do we know the right direction to take from the wrong
               direction?

God has given us His Word to guide us in the right way! Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my
feet and a light for my path.”
