Study Section 5: The When and Where of Bible Study

                5.1 Connect.

Life sometimes gets very busy. Sometimes you run into yourself coming and going. We can
even get really busy serving the Lord. There are so many people with great needs and we
can spend a lot of time helping them. Then we have to work to provide food and clothing for
the family. Life sometimes can get hectic.

Generally when “busyness” captures our lives, the first thing to suffer is the private time we
have with the Lord. Some Christians say they just don’t have a lot of time to sit and read or study the
Bible. They set aside what is important for those activities that are less important. I hope you don’t do
that! Do you have a special time set aside in your schedule to study God’s Word and commune with
Him? Today, we want to see how important that quiet time is.

               5.2 Objectives:

                        1. The student should be able to explain the need to daily have a time set aside to read the
                        Bible.

                        2. The student should be able to describe the special place set aside to do our devotions.

               3. The student should be able to describe the principles for correctly interpreting the Bible as we read
               it.

5.3 When do we study the Bible?

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate
thereon day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written
therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good
                          success.

Psalm 1:2 But his delight is in the law of Jehovah; And in his law doth he meditate day and
               night.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thy heart; and
                                                                                                     7
                                  6
thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thy house,
and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Acts 17:11 Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with
all readiness of mind, examining the Scriptures daily, whether these things were so.

When? In the morning…in the afternoon… in the evening. You can study God’s Word any time during
               the day or night.

When is the best time for you? When are you most alert? When can you get away from the cares of the
               day to be with God?
