“First born” does not mean the first one born in a family to the Jewish mind. Rather, it refers to the
cultural idea that Jesus was the preeminent son to inherit His father’s blessings. The firstborn son
held supremacy and would inherit everything. Jesus was the preeminent son of the Father (Ps. 2:6-
9; Rom. 8:29; Col. 1:15, 18; Rev. 1:5).
In conclusion, Jesus Christ has many titles each which are significant. These names described who
He was or who He would become. Some were given to Him as a representative of what He would do
for mankind. Others were given to Him because He is God.
