Bible Doctrines Survey I
                                                      By Dr. Kris Bjorgen

Study Section 1: The Doctrine of God

                1.1 Connect.

Many people believe that there is an almighty God who exists and who created all things.
Some believe He is disconnected from His creation. Some believe He is integrally involved.
Other people call themselves agnostics and claim they really don’t know if there is a God or
not. They live their lives as if there is no God, ignoring His existence. Others state
emphatically that there is no God and that everything we see in nature can be explained
scientifically. These people are called atheists. It is interesting in the Bible that God said,
“The fool has said in his heart, there is no God.” God considers these people as fools, yet He loves then
enough to pay the penalty for their sins. Today we are going to look into what the Bible says about the
               existence of God.

                1.2 Objectives:

                        1. The student should be able to explain the two types of revelation that demonstrate the
                        existence of God.

                        2. The student should be able to describe the four philosophical proofs for God which provide
               logical conclusions for His existence.

               3. The student should be able to explain God’s communicable attributes (characteristics found in a
limited degree in man) and His incommunicable attributes that only He possesses.

                1.3 The Doctrine of God

People often ask the following questions about God: How do we know there is a God?
What proof do we have that validates His existence? How can I know Him personally? Are
there three Gods or One God with three names? These are legitimate questions that are
answered in the Bible, God’s revelation to man.

We can know there is a God.

First, we can know God through General Revelation. This means that God has revealed Himself to us
through not only his creations, but through giving us a conscience to know right from wrong. These
Scriptures demonstrate that God makes Himself known through the creation:

Acts 14: 15-17 “Friends, why are you doing this? We too are only human, like you. We are bringing you
good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heavens and
