You also learned that God’s positional forgiveness was conditioned upon Christ’s payment and not at all
               upon us (Heb. 9:19-28). In addition, forgiveness is transacted with repentance and confession (Ps. 32:5;
               1 Jn. 1:9). (BCI, p. 27)

               Biblical Counseling I also covered the question “How are we to forgive?” It was answered with three
               points, backed up by scripture:
                   1. We must forgive as God has forgiven us (Matt. 18:23-35; Eph. 4:32)
                   2. We must stand ready to forgive – i.e., positional forgiveness.
                              This answers the question, “What if the offender refuses to seek forgiveness?”
                   3. We must be willing to make and keep the promise of forgiveness when there is repentance –
                       i.e., transactional forgiveness (Matt. 18:22; Luke 17:4; Eph. 4:32)

               Professors Myers and Jeeves write a chapter on forgiveness in their book “Psychology Through the Eyes
               of Faith” (2003). I’d like to share it with you below.
