Chapter 15: The Laws of Knowledge
(This is 1 of 22 study sections in the course, Advanced Apologetics and World Views)
Connect …
The Bible says that God made mankind in His own image and after His likeness and gave man dominion
over the creation (Genesis 1:26). He even had Adam name all the animals. In what ways do you
suppose man was created in God’s image?
It certainly was not a physical image, for God is spirit. So, the image of God must be non-physical. It
really had to do with several things. Man can communicate with God and with one another. Man could
have a relationship with God. Obviously, he made a man with creative ability to name all the animals.
He had the ability to think and reason. It may be that God made man to think like He thinks and talk like
He talks and understand some things that God understands.
Man sinned and this image was fractured. The spiritual connection was broken. Yet we see that
mankind after the fall immediately started farming, began using metals, and was extremely innovative.
Some of the image of God, while impaired, was still existent in the mind and heart of man. In Genesis
11:6 God decided to confound the people of Shinar’s language because if he left them to themselves,
God said, “And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be
impossible for them.” Mankind was acquiring knowledge to create a society that would exalt itself.
Today we are going to look at how important acquiring knowledge is. We are going to see that mankind
can think like God thinks, a remnant of being created in God’s image.
