Bible Study Methods
                                                     By Dr. Kris Bjorgen

Welcome to a class about how to study the Word of God, the Bible. We are all on a journey from the
cradle to the grave and then beyond into all of eternity. Our knowledge of how to live our lives here and
prepare for the future rests solely in the teachings of the Holy Bible. But how can we understand all the
Scriptures? Theologians study their entire lives and cannot agree on many of the passages or doctrines!
How can I personally study a passage of Scripture and know for certain that I understand what God
originally wrote and wants me to know? We hope to answer these questions for you.

Study Section 1: How We Got the Bible

                1.1 Connect.

The other day at church I noticed some teenagers sitting in a row of seats just opposite me.
One of the students placed his Bible on the floor and stood on it to be able to see better
during the song time. I couldn’t believe it! He had such little respect for God’s Word that he
put it on the floor and stood on it.

Do you cherish God’s Word? Would you put your copy on the floor and stand on it? I’m sure
you would not! It happens to be the most important book in our lives. We cherish it. It never deserves
to be placed on the floor or be disrespected in any way. Why? The Bible is the source of all truth and it
is God’s Holy Word. Let’s see why the Bible should be so important to you.

                1.2 Objectives.

                        1. The student should be able to describe what a proper respect for God’s Word, the Bible
                        looks like.

                        2. The student should be able to explain how God assembled the Bible into one book over
                        hundreds of years.

               3. The student should be able to describe how the Bible is inerrant and what that means.

1.3 The Bible is a very important book!

The Bible is the written expression of God. It was given to us in love to show us who God
is and how He created all things, including us. It helps us understand how we have
rebelled against His perfect will. It explains to us how He brought us back to Himself
through His sacrificial gift of LOVE. It shows us how to live in this present world and gives
us God’s guidance. Finally, it tells us what is coming in the future.
