Remains of the man-made harbor are still easy to identify.
Herod devised an ingenious way to build the harbor with
underwater walls. Though the above-the-water walls were
destroyed by the constant pounding of the surf, the
underwater walls are still in place. Archaeologists have
recovered many artifacts in recent years by diving around
these walls.
Herod’s palace featured a swimming pool
complex that jutted out into the ocean.
