P. 74
Therefore, I say, they didn’t stumble so that they would fall, did they? May it never be! But by their
transgression was the salvation to the Gentiles in order to make them jealous. Now if their transgression is
riches to world and their failure, riches to Gentiles, how much more rather their fulness.
If the rejection of Israel brings salvation to the Gentiles, then their inclusion in that salvation will mean
even greater glory for God.
But I say to you the Gentiles; upon whom therefore I am an apostle to the Gentiles, my service I glorify, if
somehow I might make jealous those of my flesh and some out of them I save. For if their rejection is
reconciliation of world, what would be the acceptance except life out of the dead? Now if the first portion
is holy, also the lump; and if the root is holy, also the branches.
I persistently make much of taking the gospel to the Gentiles so that it might make some of my people
jealous and draw them to trust in Christ.
Now if certain of the branches were broken off, but you of the wild olive tree being were grafted in among
them and sharers of the richness of the root of the olive became, do not boast against the branches; now if
there is boasting, it is not you supporting the root, but the root you. Therefore, you might say, ‘Branches
were broken off so that I might be grafted in.’ Good; by unbelief there were broken off, how you by faith
were established. Do not think proudly but fearfully; for if God against nature branches did not spare, not
somehow neither you shall he spare.
Behold therefore, the kindness and severity of God; upon those who fell severity, but upon you kindness of
God, if you continue in that kindness, otherwise you also you might be cut off. And now those ones, if they
do not remain in unbelief, they will be grafted in; for God is able again to graft them in. For if you out of
the according to nature wild olive tree were cut out and against nature were grafted into the cultivated
olive tree, how much more they who according to nature would be grafted back into their own olive tree?
Gentile believers should not take pride in God’s choice to include them in His salvation but must humbly
remember that He can choose to include Israel in salvation whenever He desires to do so.
For I do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, of this mystery, so that you would not be in yourselves wise,
because hardening from a part to Israel has come until which the fulness of the Gentiles might come in and
so all Israel might be saved, just as it is written,
The rescuer will come out of Zion, turning away godlessness from Jacob.
And this is to them, the covenant with me, when I will take away their sins.
According to the gospel, enemies because of you, but according to the election, beloved because of the
Father; for irrevocable the gifts and the calling of God. For just as you formerly were disobedient to God,
but now you have received mercy in this disobedience, so also not these ones who were disobedient to
your receiving mercy so that they now would receive mercy. For God made prisoner all unto disobedience,
so that all might receive mercy.
God has allowed Israel to be hardened in their hearts and minds so that Gentiles might believe, but they
are still the chosen covenant people of God upon whom He shows His mercy.
O depth of riches and wisdom and knowledge of God; how unfathomable His judgments and untraceable
His ways.
For who has understood mind of the Lord?
Or who a counselor to Him became?
Or who gave first to Him,
