               Our Offspring

               Khaya Ngoma

               To derive comfort from struggle,

               Eyeing the promise of food

               From the approach of hefty plates,

               Mothers and aunts wearing songs of hope

               On their sleeves, singing softly at wood fires;

               They wear true religion and wise counsel.

               Though birthed by questionable regimes,

               We still inspire a generation of answers;

               A generation of questions from creative accidents.

               It may be intangibles that failed us,

               But with their privileged hands,

               Our offspring will palm roses from new Edens.
