PHARMACY POST
How can we increase our partnership opportunities with pharmacies? The reality today is that pharmacists and their staff are extremely busy and do not always have a lot of time for discussion. As we make our visits, we see that they are struggling to
“stay on top of the business for the day." Knowing this, how can we apply a business ownership mentality and become a better partner? Below are some questions to consider:
1. What initiatives are currently important to this pharmacy I am walking into?
Pharmacy Metrics
Adherence: Do their patients refill their meds on timely basis? Their patient and overall customer satisfaction scores.
This, along with providing counseling, answering questions, vaccines, prior authorization, and collecting ever increasing co-pays, provide a perfect storm for stress.
2. What can we do to help and be account centric? Let’s look at the key players and duties.
• The pharmacist:
only person that can counsel patients
conduct a final check on medication to ensure accuracy.
contact the provider personally to clarify directions or substitutions when appropriate.
• Head pharmacy Tech
The pharmacist leans heavily on the Head Tech.
Oversees all the technicians in the pharmacy.
Responsible for scheduling shifts, ordering medication, return stock, etc.
