 IN THE SPOTLIGHT CONT’D
Recently the Novo Nordisk Way and the 10 Essentials have been updated and revamped to continue to strengthen our organization and represent the values that as employees, we want to live by. In thinking about the 10 Essentials, can you share with me a couple that truly resonate to you and why?
I believe the 10 Essentials are important to our daily work as it serves as roadmap to our success individually and as a company. The two that resonate most with me are 1 and 9.
1. We create value by having a patient-centered approach
If we keep the patient in mind and at the heart of every decision we make, everyone wins. I take a lot of pride working for a company who values the patient. I strive to carry that value through in each conversation I have with HCPs so I may positively impact their patients’ treatment journey.
9. We strive for agility and simplicity in everything we do
We have all witnessed first-hand the ever-changing landscape of healthcare, particularly since 2020. The best companies are who accommodate these changes in a positive way. I take satisfaction knowing I am safe to challenge the status quo. Having the ability and trust to bring ideas or concerns forward, allows us to adapt as needed and continue to grow. I also appreciate that Novo allows for leadership over process, which ultimately simplifies our execution. Clear direction allows us to pull-through the tasks at hand to win.
The 10 Essentials serve as a constant reminder to ensure I’m doing the right work in the right way. It helps me perform with a high level of integrity.
Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?
I am a hobbyist beekeeper as of early 2023, and I am eagerly anticipating my first honey harvest in the spring. I also plan to add mini goats and ducks to my growing collection of animals next year.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be an astronaut. I’ve been fascinated by math and science as long as I can remember. Given the opportunity, I’d be the first to sign up for a trip to the moon.
Have you ever met anyone famous?
Ginger Spice in the ladies’ restroom in New Orleans. Although, my adult-self now questions the validity of my 12 year-old-self’s memory.
What’s three items you would take to a deserted island?
A fire starter, a knife, and my e-reader. I can’t promise I would try to signal for help though. The R&R sounds pretty nice.
A little about my family:
I’ve been married for 9 years to my wonderful husband, Matt. I have two children, Lane who is 4 and Kate who is 8 months.
Well Kalyn, we are so excited that you joined Novo Nordisk and are excited to see what the future holds for you here!
