Comprehensive vs Voluntary
Comprehensive –
• EMPLOYER MUST elect dental and/or vision (ALL EMPLOYEES have dental and/or vision if
EMPLOYER has elected it as a benefit offering)
• EMPLOYEE must have the same tier as medical coverage (if an employee covers spouse on
medical, must also cover spouse on dental and/or vision)
• EMPLOYEE must elect medical in order to elect dental and/or vision
• EMPLOYER must pay 50% of dental and/or vision premium (just like the medical premium)
Voluntary –
• EMPLOYER must elect that they allow voluntary dental and/or vision on their plan
• EMPLOYEE does not need to elect medical in order to elect dental and/or vision
• EMPLOYEE can elect any tier
• EMPLOYER does NOT have to pay 50% of dental and/or vision premium
