Qatar
The state of Qatar has a population of just under two million
people. Only about 15% of the population is Qatari-the rest are
foreign workers and visitors. Qatar has an area of 11,437 square
kilometers, and its only land border is with the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia, to the south. The rest of the country is
surrounded by the Gulf.
In the past, Qatar was an important pearl-fishing centre but,
since the 1940s, many people work in the large oil and gas
fields. Also, with the FIFA World Cup coming to Qatar in 2022,
there are other employment opportunities like the new Doha
Metro.
