Supposedly, Dearborn had
the spring excavated to the
bed-rock, cleaned, stoned up
to within four feet of the
surface, and then tiled to
protect it from surface water.
The tiling was extended
upward through a tight floor
and building erected over
the spring, “with easy
facilities for raising the
water.”
