CLOWN 2: Oh, yes, indeed. In fact, it looks totally worn out.
Someone should tell him there are easier ways to open coconuts than
cracking them on his head.
INTELLECTUAL: You don’t understand.
CLOWN 1: No, you don’t understand.
CLOWN 2: No, I don’t understand.
CLOWN 1: Hold it. Nobody said you don’t understand.
CLOWN 2: I said it.
CLOWN 1: Are you nobody?
CLOWN 2: I must be.
CLOWN 1: Then you did say it.
CLOWN 2: “I don’t understand.”
CLOWN 1: But nobody can say that.
CLOWN 2: Then you do understand.
CLOWN 1: I understand you can’t say that.
CLOWN 2: Why not?
CLOWN 1: You’re not nobody. I am.
CLOWN 2: But I did say it.
CLOWN 1: Did you mean it?
CLOWN 2: Of course.
CLOWN 1: Then both of us are nobody and neither of us
understands.
CLOWN 2: That seems both reasonable and fair.
INTELLECTUAL: Bah! The two of you make me sick: can’t you
take anything seriously?
