Zaratan or Gaia?
“Today we are drilling deep into the crust for mineralogical data. I
just checked our seismographs: something is rumbling underneath us,
and it’s not the coring equipment. If my suspicions are correct, we
have set down not on Gaia but on Zaratan, the huge beast mythical
mariners mistook for an island in the sea: landing, they built a fire
and roused the monster, which crushed them and their vessel. Do
you understand the danger now, Captain?”
Yabbowitz looked at his hand. It was trembling. As was his ship.
