Text:
In nineteen hundred ninety-two
We’ll dump into the oceans glue,
And blow to bits the ozone layer:
Life on earth won’t have a prayer!
But—broke at last—we’ll have the heart
To stop the wars we paid to start;
So don’t forget, as George would say,
To have yourself a real nice day!
Notes:
1. The first two lines parody the didactic doggerel beginning, “In
1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.” Thus the quincentennial.
2. Durga mandala and four corners: see Tibetan Buddhist mandalas
and the protective Hindu goddess Durga for this conflation.
3. George: U.S. president on 1/1/1992, George H. W. Bush.
