P. 5
Although we can’t live in the past
(Whatever happens does not last
And soon we’ll go—it’s ever thus),
While we’re here the past lives in us.
The decrepit and demented
Are too often represented
Daily doing things too risky:
What about the young and frisky?
Does the brain from passion and rage
Refrigerate and freeze with age
What in youth were burning issues—
Or with time just burn those tissues?
It’s past another era’s dawn,
And what made sense to you is gone:
Despair and bathe in bathos or
Embrace your inner dinosaur!
Down the tubes (as an expression),
Means incurable regression;
But gurneyed look what’s passing through:
The tubes are now what go down you!
