Day 2 Keynote:
It Takes a Village: Hope & Collaboration in School-Based Suicide Prevention
~ Candice Porter, Executive Director, & Kara LaMarche, Senior Marketing & Advocacy Manager, Connor’s Climb Foundation
This keynote discussion brings together mental health advocates providing suicide prevention education and resources to schools across New Hampshire. Panelists share their experience advocating for suicide prevention, providing effective school-based programming and sustainable approaches to training school faculty and community leaders. An overview of NH LAW-193J (formerly SB-282), an active relative to suicide prevention in schools, will be provided along with examples of how schools and community-based organizations are striving to meet these requirements.
Candice Porter is a nationally known therapist, educator, prevention specialist, thought leader, and collaborator with over 15 years of experience working in public and private settings. Her passion is raising awareness around mental health and suicide and how to proactively engage in prevention and treatment. Prior to joining Connor’s Climb Foundation, she was the Vice President for Outreach & Partnerships at Screening for Mental Health, responsible for cultivating strategic partnerships and guiding new program development and innovation. She is a visionary champion who helped the organization grow its mental health screening program and expand its suicide prevention efforts.
Candice holds a Master of Social Work from the State University of New York at Albany and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the State University of New York at Oswego.
Kara LaMarche is a results-driven marketing professional with over 20 years of experience in lead generation, online marketing, web seminars and more. In her spare time, Kara is a freelance artist who works closely with clients to create a one of a kind painting tailored to their home or business needs. She lives in Bedford, NH with her husband and two growing, hockey loving boys.
