1. SOS Signs of Suicide: A Sustainable Approach to Providing Evidence-Based Suicide Prevention - Candice Porter, Executive Director & Kara LaMarche, Senior Marketing & Advocacy Manager, Connor’s Climb Foundation
This session provides an overview of an evidence-based suicide prevention program and the importance of community partnerships to ensure sustainability. Participants will learn how a New Hampshire nonprofit, Connor’s Climb Foundation, is empowering schools with lifesaving resources and “Sticking it to Stigma.”
2. Integration of Academics, SEL & Behavior through MTSS-B – JoAnne Malloy, Ph.D., Research Associate Professor, UNH Institute on Disability & Melissa Lee, Field Specialist, Youth & Family Resiliency, UNH Cooperative Extension
Many New Hampshire schools struggle with the complex social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students. Implementing Multi-Tiered System of Support for Behavioral Health and wellness provides schools with an organizational framework to integrate social-emotional learning, academic and behavior supports, align initiatives, and strengthen the systems that support educator and administrator effectiveness. This session will explore what MTSS-B is, the benefits to schools implementing, and resources for getting started.
3. Healthy Teen Relationship Attributes from the Perception of Teens, Teachers & Families – Sharyn Potter, Ph.D., MPH, Professor/Executive Director, Preventions Innovations Research Center, UNH
During this interactive session Sharyn will present qualitative and quantitative data gathered from NH teens regarding their perceptions of what constitutes a healthy relationship, and how the adults in their life can help them navigate these relationships. Take away strategies for engaging adults in these important conversations.
4. Reducing Anxiety in the Online Environment: Best Practices: Lisa Hayward, Ph.D., Prevention Coordinator & Susan Ward, MTSS-B Consultant, Southeast NH, Office of Social & Emotional Wellness, NH Department of Education
Lisa and Susan provide an overview of why students feel anxiety in a virtual learning environment. We will discuss how to norm students to distance learning environments thereby reducing anxiety, increasing positive behavior and learning through the implementation of best school-wide and classroom practices. Topics will include: the benefits of distance learning, norming & anxiety, setting consistent expectations through structure, establishing presence, setting consistent expectations for behavior, and responsive approaches in distance learning environments.
