SYNOPSIS
After a fateful encounter in the Arctic many years ago, Maggie’s father has spent his life looking for the creation
of Victor Frankenstein – and it has cost him and his family everything. Penniless and with no other family, Maggie and her father are close to ruin, when suddenly a mysterious benefactor, Count Florenzo, appears and offers to fund one last voyage in search of the monster.
In secret, Maggie stows away on board the ship to travel with the group. The ship sails north, through treacherous conditions, and at last they reach the Arctic, where they speak to the local people and learn something incredible – Frankenstein’s monster is dead... but he had a child.
They discover the child of the monster and the men capture it and bring it back to the ship in chains, where Maggie befriends the creature, whose name is Kata. Kata becomes sick on the journey, and Maggie cares for him, slowly restoring him to health.
They arrive in New York, where Count Florenzo reveals that he was not interested in finding Frankenstein’s monster for the purposes of scientific discovery, but rather to display him as an exhibit in his circus. He is furious that they have not brought back the monster and punishes Maggie’s father – announcing that as he has not honoured their agreement, he must cover the cost of the entire voyage. Kata announces that his father is not dead – and will come and rescue him.
Kata is taken away, and along with Maggie and her father they are forced to join the company of Florenzo’s Emporium to pay off their debts. Florenzo launches his new act – every night on stage he brings Kata “back to life” by electrocuting him. The act is a roaring success but causes Kata terrible pain and Maggie is horrified.
