On the dog front there were domesticated ones as well as wild ones called jackals. They were members of the wolf family and looked like slim dogs with big ears. Jackals were scavengers, finding food scraps and dead animals to eat. Yuck!
Remember that next time you’re grumbling about having to open a tin of dog food for your pooch.

* It is not known whether children really had lions as pets, but Rameses II certainly did. Best stock up on cat food then!

 Ancient Egyptians loved cats – in fact, they treated them almost like gods! When a cat died, its owners even shaved OfF their eyebrows to show they were in mourning. Cats were also turned into mummies when they died. Or should that be “meow-mies”?
