People back then had hundreds of gods to choose from. Gods were often pictured with animal heads to help identify them and to show their special quality.
The most important of them was the sun-god, Ra.
Osiris was the god of the dead and had green skin! People believed he helped their ancestors plant crops, bake bread and make wine, which was nice of him.
The chief goddess, Isis, was married to her own brother Osiris (aaawkwaaard).
Horus, the god of the sky and son of Isis and Osiris (still aaawkwaaard), had the head of a falcon.
Note!
As far as we know there were no gods with the head of a hamster, goldfish or bumblebee.
The goddess Sakhmet the Powerful had the head of a lioness.
The goddess Taueret had a crocodile head, a hippo’s body and a lion’s legs. Now that’s what you call a mash-up.

Anubis, who was the god of mummification, had the head of a jackal, a type of wild dog.
