Gods, amulets and protection
When your parents want you to be safe and protect yourself, they may insist you wear one of the following things:
1. A bicycle helmet.
2. Knee and elbow pads for skateboarding.
3. A waterproof jacket.
4. A bodysuit made entirely from bubble-wrap (if they’re rEaLlY cautious).
But don’t grumble – if you think you’ve got it bad there were things in ancient Egypt that kids really did need protection from . . . because knee pads and an anorak wouldn’t be much use if a croc decided the main course for lunch was “kid surprise”.
Whether it was being gobbled up by hungry
hippos, falling into the Nile, being stung by stingy thingies or coming down with a dreadful disease that made your head swell up like a beach ball and your bottom fall off, there was certainly a lot for mums and dads to worry about back then.
So it’s not surprising ancient Egyptians worshipped gods and used protective amulets to help keep their children safe.
FANCY THAT!
Blue was the´s´ ky colour´´, and people thought it was lucky. So if your dad asks why you´ve dyed your hair blue, now you have a good reason.
