The Book of the Dead was a collection of spells which were intended to help people pass smoothly into the afterlife when they died. Not the kind of book for a bedtime story...
If there was one thing the ancient Egyptians knew about, it was prepping the dead for the afterlife.
We’re talking mummies.
The entire process took 70 days.
Step 1
First the internal organs — except the heart and kidneys — were removed through a hole cut in the left side.
Ready, steady, SCOOP!

    The organs were dried, wrapped and placed in containers called canopic jars.
Step 2
The brain was then scooped out through the nose and chucked away.
Note!
If you see an ancient Egyptian coming towards you with a teaspoon and a glint in his eye, either run away or hold your nose.
