FANCY THAT!
One of the smelliest jobs, apart from the gong farmer, was a tanner, who prepared animal skins for use. Once the hair was removed, the tanners would soften the material by pounding dung into the skin. Dog and pigeon poop were commonly used. Put it this way, you wouldn’t want to be stuck in a lift with a tanner after a hard shift.
Thankfully, not all chores that kids were expected to do in and around the castle were as smelly as that.
The luckiest children were those who had jobs as servants looking after the Lord and Lady’s apartments. They got nicer food and, rather than sleeping in chilly, uncomfortable parts of the castle, they slept in the posh rooms which were warm and comfy.
These boys and girls were often children of wealthy families. They’d be sent away from home and spend years perfecting their good manners and learning how to act like a noble man or woman.
I think you might need a few more lessons.
So it´s not good manners to burp the alphabet during dinner, then?
Sounds like it was a bit more detailed than saying “please” and “thank you” and remembering not to blow your nose on the curtains.
