SYNOPSIS
It’s the night of the queen’s performance at the theatre. Thanks to Mouse’s acting talents, Valentina still thinks that she is assisting her with her plan. She thinks she’s convinced Mouse to purchase a bottle of poison which she will give to the queen on stage, having told Mouse that it’s just a truth serum. But Mouse has realised that Valentina is actually planning to assassinate the queen. She never wanted Walter freed. She just wanted Mouse’s help in her plot to kill the queen. Mouse has secretly replaced the poison with water. When Valentina realises what Mouse has done
and that her secret identity as an assassin is revealed, she goes for a messier assassination attempt – fire! She traps the queen on stage and sets a fire beneath her. Mouse manages to drag the queen to safety, then chases after Valentina.
Valentina flees to the harbour, but Mouse catches up to her and a fierce swordfight ensues. Valentina can’t believe that Mouse has turned against her, thwarting her plans. She always thought she could control Mouse.
But she never wanted to hurt her. Mouse feels utterly betrayed, but she still loves Valentina – sometimes, she almost saw her as a mother, but now she feels she never knew who she truly was. After a desperate battle, Mouse overcomes Valentina who crashes into the water.
Mouse returns to the theatre, confirming that it was Valentina who was behind the murder of Lady Grey – it was the first step in her plot to kill the queen. The queen promises to pardon Walter. But as they speak, Valentina races towards them with her sword, determined to see her plan through. Mouse fights her, and Valentina is forced back – onto a blade, held by the queen, behind her.
The queen gives Walter his pardon and in the final scene the remaining members of the theatre troupe sit together in the ruin of the theatre making plans for the new play they’re going to write, the new theatre they’re going to build, and celebrating the family they’ve become.
