Tom tripped over a long orange tail. It was Digby! The surprised cat bolted out of the door of the workshop and raced back towards town. Tom ran after him. “Digby!” he shouted.
But his cat had vanished. Tom stopped by a row of houses. Inside he could hear voices and laughter.
A typical house
had three or four rooms:
a living room, a storeroom (with
a cellar below), a bedroom and a kitchen courtyard, with steps up to the roof.
