WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (1564–1616)
A famous writer, T. S. Eliot, called April ‘the cruellest month’. It’s true that the weather can be very changeable but, thanks to those April showers, we start to see lots of signs of new life which signal that spring is well and truly on its way. Look out for beautiful blossom on the trees and green shoots in the flowerbeds.
April showers can be annoying. Those short, sharp bursts of rain seem to come from nowhere and disappear just as quickly. You have to remember to take an umbrella out with you in April even if the sun is shining when you leave the house! This is because the sky is full
of cumulonimbus (those big, puffy white clouds) which burst into rain and then clear away again to leave blue sky.
It can still be very cold in the mornings, too – you might see frost on the grass early in the day. There can also be heavy snow in the hills. So basically, when you go out, be prepared for all weathers!
