Of course, back in those days the Romans didn’t have computers in class to help them learn. But they did have TaBlEtS!

Before you go around telling people the Romans were totally clued up on apps and could play Minecraft around town, we’re not talking about that kind of tablet. These were blocks of wood with shallow cavities carved in them, into which melted beeswax was poured to form a writing surface. Once you’d written on it with a sharpened metal “pen” called a stylus you could simply rub out the writing and use the tablet again. And it never needed to be charged up either!

     Also, if you ran low on wax, you could always have a little noodle around in your EaRhOlE for some emergency gunk to top it up.
So, if you’re a hi-tech sort who prefers a screen you can SWIpE instead of a waxy blob you can WIpE, perhaps you wouldn’t get on so well in ancient Rome . . .
