In Rome, the four chariot racing teams were the Blues, Greens, Reds and Whites
– nice and simple. But sometimes the
rival fans got into fights with each other.
In the city of Constantinople (which is now in modern-day Turkey, but was part of the Roman Empire back in AD 532) fighting between the Blues and the Greens spiralled into a riot in which both teams joined forces to try and overthrow the emperor. Nearly half of the city was burned or destroyed and tens of thousands of people were killed! Whoops. You don’t get that sort of behaviour in Cheesepoodle!
So how EXACTLY did the city end up getting burned to ground?
Well, we were playing snap and things kind of got out of hand . . .
The Circus Maximus, where chariot racing took place in Rome, was the largest venue in the city. It held up to 250,000 people! So it was a BiG dEaL.

FANCY THAT!
The combination of sweat, dirt and olive oil scraped with a strigil from the bodies of top athletes was sometimes sold to the public for huge prices. It was used in ointments to cure ailments. Why not try selling a tub of your grubby sweat for big bucks? GOOD LUCK!
