Sleeping outdoors is one of the most fun activities for friends and family to enjoy during the warm summer months. You don’t have to go away and stay on a campsite. If you have a garden, why not camp there? You can have just as much fun. And if you get a bit chilly, you can creep indoors and get back into your own bed! But after you’ve tried all these things, you won’t want to go back inside . . .
1 Go on a nature walk
Once you have pitched your tent, go for a walk as the sun is setting. Listen to all the sounds around you. Which birds can you hear? What can you see? Try to walk around as quietly as you can so that you don’t frighten any of the wildlife. You might hear owls or see a badger or a fox.
2 Cook over the campfire
This is the best bit about camping! Don’t forget to pack a box of
matches with your camping things. Then, while you are on your nature walk, gather some small, dry sticks. You can use these to start your fire. Stick a
sausage on a skewer or make campfire bread by mixing flour, water and a
pinch of salt into a thick dough and wrapping it around a clean
stick. Then carefully hold the food over the flames until it
is cooked. Marshmallows make a perfect dessert.
