Why is December Called December?
This month gets its name from the Latin word for tenth, decem. The Anglo-Saxons called December Ærra Geola or the month ‘before Yule’. Yule was an important winter festival and is still celebrated today by pagans. Many of the ‘Yuletide’ traditions have found their way into things we now think of as Christmas traditions.
December Birth Signs
Sagittarius is represented by a centaur – a mythological creature who is half-man, half-horse. People born under the sign of Sagittarius, on or between 22nd November and 21st December, are supposed to be generous and have a great sense of humour. They can also be very impatient and will often speak first and think after!
Capricorn is the tenth birth sign and is represented by a goat with large horns and a fishtail. This is because, in legend, Capricorn was a sea-goat. The dates for
this sign are 22nd December to 19th January. People born under this sign are thought to be ambitious and disciplined, but they can also be worriers.
There is an old saying that “a clear, star-filled sky on Christmas Eve will bring good crops in the summer”.
