Meanwhile, Izzy and her friends think the lake is creepy and that something is GOING ON. Ranger Tam, who takes them on their walk, starts to tell them about the LEGEND OF THE LAKE.There’s a creature who has lived in the lake for hundreds of years but no one has seen it for a long time, until very recently...The children vow to find the creature and be the first to get proper evidence that it exists.
While they are doing raft-building, Zach falls into the water and swears he can see a big, slimy tail coming to- wards him! Everyone panics, and there’s a lot of scream- ing and fainting, but eventually Zach is pulled out of the water (which only goes up to his knees anyway) and the tail disappears.
That night, they hear splashing and they find muddy footprints by the lake. And their PACKED LUNCHES have disappeared! While they are doing a big climb the following day, Jodi sees something weird by the lake- side shed and urges Zach and Izzy to run to investigate. They do, and they find slimy trails and footprints and the lodge-hotel owner’s warm shoes and they KNOW something is going on.
Later that night, they discover that one of the teachers
is missing, and there’s mud all over Gary Petrie’s hot tub! The intrepid children sneak on to a midnight boat ride to find out what’s going on and they SEE THE MONSTER!
