WHAT DO FOOTBALLERS DO WHEN THEY’RE
NOT PLAYING
Very few footballers get to play professional football full-time. Semi-professional players will probably have another job outside of football. This could be anything at all – from chefs to carpenters!
Footballers don’t stay in the same team forever. In fact, they are bought and sold by different clubs all the time, during periods called ‘transfer windows’ – one in the summer and one in the winter. This means they need to be good at settling in and making friends quickly.
DID YOU KNOW?
Sometimes players move to a team in a different country where they might not even speak the language. When this happens, language lessons are extremely useful, but they also find that playing football as a team is a brilliant way to get to know each other.
Footballers also might do interviews, meet the public and do advertising work with commercial brands, so you have to be good at talking to people.
