Most of what we are afraid of is the unknown.
Something frightening did happen to Marie Curie (1867 – 1934), whose pioneering work with X-rays exposed her to radiation that caused the cancer that killed her at sixty-six – because she did not know the danger. And yet what she discovered – how to understand what is happening inside us – has saved countless lives. She gave others less to fear.
If something frightens you, you need to know more about it. And the more you know, the braver you will feel.
And the time for understanding is always now.
