WHAT IS A VET
Just like people, animals sometimes get sick. Vets, also known as ‘veterinarians’, are animal doctors that can help them to get better. Vets care for all sorts of different animals, from cats and hamsters to rhinos and flamingos.
Vets can be found all over the world. Some vets work in a building called
a veterinary surgery. This is a lot like a doctor’s surgery. It is where we take our pets when they are unwell.
Other vets work with animals that are too big to bring to the surgery. Those vets must travel to see the animals where they live. Common places for a vet to visit are farms, stables and zoos.
Vets sometimes work with wild animals too. These vets often have to travel a long way in difficult conditions to reach their patients.
