 One by one, the children are trapped inside The Escape, until only Ami is left, finding herself alone on a beach
on what looks like a desert island. As she stares at the flotsam and jetsam on the shore, Ami starts to make connections between these seemingly disparate objects, the Answer that she’s been searching for slowly taking shape inside her mind. As she realises what this means, Ami stares up into the clear blue sky and, with a note of defiance in her voice, shouts,“I’m not playing anymore.” In reply to her shout, the Host steps onto the shore, staring at Ami with a resigned look on his face.“This is what you always say,” he tells her sadly.“But we need you to save the world.” Ami shakes her head, trying to hide her anger as a trillion thoughts bubble inside her brain. Instead, she asks the Host one question: “Why?”
The Host explains that a famous scientist called Albert Einstein once said that no problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.“That’s why we created you, Ami.” He reveals that the initials
of her name stand for Artificial Machine Intelligence, a self-improving computer whose artificial intelligence now far surpasses that of the very brightest human minds.The Host explains that the human race faces innumerable problems, from climate change to mass extinctions, and that Ami was created to find the solutions to these prob- lems: the Answer that would save the world.
“But why the game?” Ami asks, “And where are all the others?” The Host explains that although Ami possess- es super-intelligence, her mind is still young and all she wanted to do was play. He tells her that this isn’t the
