Life as a Spartan
There’s nothing worse than being EATEN BY A FOX. Actually, being slowly nibbled by a TINY KITTEN might be worse, because they’re really small and cute and you’d look a bit silly if you couldn’t even stop a kitten eating you.
Luckily, the closest you’ll probably get is being bitten by a flea, which is eXtremely annoying, but if you think you’ve got it bad, just say a big old thank you that you’re not growing up in Sparta . . .
FANCY THAT!
Spartan boy soldiers were not very well fed and if they were caught STEALING they were punished severely – not for stealing . . . but for being CAUGHT. There is a story about a Spartan boy who stole a FOX and hid it under his tunic. The animal gnawed into his body but the boy chose to die rather than wail out loud and be found out.
