Sparta was one of the most important Greek city states outside of Athens, which was around 95 miles away as the crow flies. If you weren’t a crow and had to walk it was a lot further.
Life in Sparta was ever so slightly on the tough side. Just a TeEnY-tInY bit. You see, the Spartans had conquered another region called Laconia and made the people slaves. But they were always worried the slaves might rebel so they trained their children to become fIeRcE WArRiOrS, just in case.
Perhaps more so than in other parts of Ancient Greece, babies that were considered too Weak to grow into ToUgH, fEaRlEsS sOlDiErS were left outside to die. The boys who made it were moulded into warriors in the toughest ways.
