The ancient Greeks seemed to have a god for pretty much every occasion! After all, everyone needs a god of wine, a god of dreams and a god of fire, right?
Eros
One of the most unusual gods was Pan, the god of flocks and protector of shepherds. He had a human body but the lEgS, eArS AnD HoRnS oF
A gOaT! That sounds like a baaaa-d look. He was believed to possess such a terrifying screech that it could paralyse animals with fear and topple city walls.
His name gives us the modern word “panic”, but not the modern word “pants” – goats don’t wear pants. We’ve checked.
Eros, the Greek god of love, is often depicted as a small child, sometimes with wings. He carried a boW and was thought to stir up feelings of love in humans by sHoOtInG aRrOWS at them.
A little kid? Shooting people with arrows? Errr, has anyone called the police? That tiny dude needs to be locked up.
