Zeus was the king of the gods, and is usually shown as a strong man with a big beard. He was the controller of thunder and lightning. He was married to his sister Hera, which is pReTtY WeIrD, so let’s just park that there. Move along. Nothing to see here.
Things could get awfully odd when it came to old Zeus, it has to be said.
A painting on one vase shows the strange birth of the goddess Athena, daughter of Zeus and his cousin, Metis (let's not go into that one, either).
Knowing that Metis might be carrying his child, Zeus ate her, because he was worried that any child born to Metis would be more powerful than he was.
