Blackadder Goes Forth
and Barnsley On Screen
in The Great War
Tuesday 6 November 6pm - 7.30pm
In a rare public showing, Barnsley Museums will be screening Goodbyeee the iconic last episode of Blackadder Goes Forth alongside wartime film footage of Barnsley in the borough’s iconic town hall.
The episode depicts its main characters’
final hours before a British offensive on the Western Front where Captain Blackadder attempts to escape his fate by feigning madness. The episode’s theme of death, culminating in its acclaimed ending, ties in with the series’ use of gallows humour and satire of war. Although not a reliable account, this moment in TV history is seared on the minds of a generation and is viewed as a meaningful parody of war.
The screenings will be followed by a discussion led by a specialist guest panel.
