Jolly Tap // THE VICTORIAN ARCADE
Formerly The Arcade Alehouse, the Jolly Tap’s origins make for a great Christmas tale.
Of its four owners, three are school teachers – all formerly of Kingstone School. And former pupils make up part of the Jolly Tap’s clientele, all eager to learn how their former Sirs became the proud owners of their own brewery.
It all started at a cosy pub in Scarborough, when the four friends decided to couple their love of contributing to society by educating the next generation with another passion – their love for beer.
It led them to opening the Jolly Boy’s Brewery in 2014 in Redbrook. Specialities include IPAs, blondes and bitters, with Jolly Boy’s tipples stocked in local pubs around the borough.
But they desperately wanted to find a home for their creations in Barnsley town centre, so when the previous owners of Arcade Alehouse moved on, the Jolly Tap was born.
Its intimate setting is the ideal place for festive drinks. You’ll find plenty of lagers, bitters, blondes and
craft beers on offer as well as a tempting range of bar snacks – as well as some of the Jolly Boy’s own creations, of course.
There’s even talk of the friends brewing up a special Barnsley beer in 2020 – giving you even more reason to visit.
Tis the season to be jolly – so what better place to enjoy a Christmas drink than the Jolly Tap?
