 Barnsley
Bright Nights
Thursday 28th - Saturday 30th November 2019
Get ready to light up
for Christmas, Barnsley, and in the most spectacular fashion.
Barnsley Bright Nights – Barnsley’s winter lights extravaganza – is back for its second instalment following last year’s debut event.
This year’s showcase – taking place between Thursday 28 and Saturday 30 November - will see a series of light installations and shows across our town centre as Barnsley lights up for the festive season.
The action will begin on
Thursday 28 November from
6pm with the annual lights
switch on and fireworks
display outside the town
hall, which will come to life with a display of dancing lights and your favourite festive music as Barnsley’s countdown to Christmas officially begins.
Look out for an illuminated parade as it weaves its way from the Library @ the Lightbox at 6pm through the Victorian Arcade.
Lead by the Ski Light Band and
a sea of handmade community lanterns, the parade will head to the town hall before the fireworks begin.
You’ll be able to see colourful Santa’s Air Force characters and enjoy performances from the mysterious Ghost Caribou before exploring Barnsley Bright Nights’ Winter Lights trail at venues across the town centre.
Highlights include a new digital installation in the renovated Cooper Gallery garden. Awekids - The
Garden of Light will take you on a journey through the space using music, sound, projection and a variety of digital content.
Families can also take part in drawing and badge making activities as part of the event.
But it’s an installation in Barnsley College’s Old Mill Lane campus that will take your breath away.
Gaia is a ginormous, stunning replica of our planet earth, created using detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface.
