Bring Your Finds Day – with Portable Antiquities
Thursday 16 Jan
As part of the RESTORING THE GLORY, REVEALING THE SECRETS project, Cannon Hall will be visited by the Portable Antiquities Scheme and our Community Archaeologist Jon Kenny to help you identify your own archaeological finds.
Have you ever found archaeological objects whilst digging in the garden, taking the dog for a walk or metal detecting? Would you like to find out more about them?
Come along and the team will:
• Identify and record your objects
• Provide advice about conservation and how to clean and store your finds
• Give guidance on laws surrounding the discovery of treasure
• Provide information on how to better record the location of your discoveries
• Put you in touch with local resources where you can find out more
Archaeology Workshop
Medieval Landscape and the Agricultural Revolution Sun 9 Feb
As part of the RESTORING THE GLORY, REVEALING THE SECRETS project, we will be running a series of FREE workshops exploring the history and archaeology of Cannon Hall Museum, Park and Gardens.
As part of this workshop we will explore the medieval history of Cannon Hall, looking at what we know about the medieval hall that existed before Cannon Hall, and what still remains in the landscape that can help us investigate its past.
Join Community Archaeologist Dr Jon Kenny to look at the way that medieval landscape changed with the renaissance and agricultural revolution.
Free drop-in event (Spencer Wing) 1pm and 3pm. Due to the outdoor renovation project there will be no access from the main car park to the hall. Visitors will therefore need to use the Cannon Hall Farm car park.
Please email any enquiries to our Community Archaeologist at jkcomarc@gmail.com.
1–3pm | Free drop-in activity
How did the landowners change the way that we farmed the land? How did the changes in artistic taste and scientific thinking change the kinds of gardens we see today at Cannon Hall?
Refreshments will be provided and participants can either bring their own lunch or purchase it from a food outlet on the day.
Appropriate clothing advised
for a walk around the gardens. No previous knowledge required.
Please email any enquiries to our Community Archaeologist at jkcomarc@gmail.com.
