Music
Music is an integral part of our school. Time after time, our musical performances leave audiences in awe of the talent on display.
At WGHS we rmly believe that extra-curricular music plays a vital role in our girls’ education and development. The Music Department cultivates
a lively, active and happy atmosphere. It involves as many girls as possible, whatever their standard or previous experience, and provides a wide range of activities to re ect girls’ different tastes.
The majority of ensembles are collaborations with QEGS, further extending the wide variety
of genres and musical interests catered for, with new ensembles constantly evolving to showcase their personal style and current musical stance.
A vast team of visiting instrumental musicians (VIMs) adds to the diversity of the musical opportunities available by providing tuition
to girls wishing to learn an instrument or take lessons in voice or theory.
Girls have the opportunity to develop their skills
in teamwork, widen their repertoire and enhance their general musicianship whilst becoming more con dent performers both in and outside of school.
Drama
Drama is an enriching part of WGHS life, with a thriving extra-curricular drama programme which extends and complements work undertaken within the curriculum.
Lessons and clubs are centred in the purpose-built drama studio. Lunchtime drama clubs run for Years 7 to 9, with outcomes such as mini-pantos and mask-work performances. In the summer term, the Year 7—9 Drama Competition is a very popular event, well-attended by parents and staff who enjoy the high-quality writing and performing.
There are opportunities for girls wanting to be involved in other aspects of drama, including the sound and lighting team (SALT) and stage management, allowing other skills and technical aspects of performance to be experienced.
Excellent Lower and Senior School productions take place jointly with QEGS each year, resulting in stunning and accomplished performances by large and extremely talented casts.
